Rules for Writers:

  • Entry must be in the science fiction, fantasy, dark fantasy categories and their sub-genres. No poetry, excessive violence or sex.

  • You must be the sole Author and proprietor of the Entry.

  • If you are under 18, you must have permission from your parent/guardian to enter this contest.

  • Your entry must be your original, unpublished work, in English.

  • Plagiarism will result in disqualification and removal from an anthology.

  • Full copyright of the Entry is retained by the Author.

  • In the event of winning the Contest or being shortlisted, the Author grants to the Contest the right to publish their Entry in all editions and formats (e.g., paper and electronic) of that anthology. Moreover, upon notification of being shortlisted, you agree to the Contest retaining rights of first publication of your story in that anthology (released no later than 1 year from the end of the contest), also known as First World English Rights. All shortlisted stories will be proofread and edited if needed ready for publication - we will always show the Author any changes first so they can be agreed by both parties. After publication of the anthology, you are free to submit/publish your Entry elsewhere.

  • Please pay the Entry Fee before submitting your story. At the moment Paypal is the sole method for Entry Fee payment and for paying out the cash prize. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause you.

  • Entry specifications: Entry to be no longer than 8,000 words. Entry to be typed and well edited. Entry must have a cover page with Title, Author's name and word count.

  • Entry should be submitted via e-mail only (Word, Pages). Only one Entry per Round. You will receive confirmation via e-mail that we have your Entry.

  • Shortlisted Authors will be emailed personally and their names announced on this website.

  • The winners of the round will receive a £50 prize, publication in that year's anthology and a free copy of the book. All shortlisted Authors will also be published in that year's anthology and receive a free copy of the book. Prize money will be issued at the end of the round.

  • The Anthology will only be published if we have a minimum of six shortlisted stories. If this number is not achieved, all entrants, regardless of being shortlisted or not, will be refunded their entry fee. In such case, it follows that the cash prize will not be awarded.

  • Any tax liability resulting from the prize is the sole responsibility of the winner.
