“I could not put Memory and Magic down when I started reading it. D. M. Beucler’s debut begins with a simple, relatable problem. Paying the rent and then escalates from there into adventure, intrigue and magic. I loved every page of it.”
—Mary Robinette Kowal

Memory and Magic engaged me from the beginning and kept me invested in it all the way to the end. The novel hits the trifecta of magic, politics, and romance in all the right ways without being predictable. Tamsin is a fully realized, interesting character who does interesting things, and it was a delight to share a world with her.”
—Lisbeth Campbell, author of The Vanished Queen

“Austen fans rejoice! Swift and sweet, this Regency-inspired fantasy is a delightful blend of romance, mystery, and magic. Readers will love Beucler’s eminently practical heroine and the world of trouble that lands on her doorstep.”
—Samantha Mills, author of The Wings Upon Her Back

Tara on the artwork:

It’s always a pleasure to create artwork for Francesca and the Luna family, and this time it was for Memory and Magic by Denise M Beucler.

I started off with some loose sketches, and after the preferred idea was chosen, I then moved onto a hybrid process of using traditional and digital media. The starting point was a mini photoshoot, and from then I created a pencil drawing from my preferred image. The next stage was adding some paint washes, and after the artwork was scanned in, then I was able to finish it off using some digital effects in photoshop.

Denise’s book sounds so intriguing – I love the idea of a fantasy novel about blood magic! I’m so looking forward to reading it, and I wish her all the success.

About Memory and Magic

Tamsin learned caution the hard way, spending a year in the king’s jail under suspicion of using illegal blood magic. Now she’s scrounging a living as a laundress in the Narrows, the poorest ring of the three walled capital city.

When Tamsin’s smuggler friend brings a badly beaten outsider to her door, compassion drives her to risk everything and heal him. But Rhys is no ordinary kingsringer dandy. An unknown blood mage stripped away Rhys’s memories, he’s being hunted, and he may be a traitor to the crown.

Now Tamsin must navigate the working-class streets she knows and the aristocracy she left behind to clear his name and discover the treasonous plot that someone wanted Rhys to forget. If she fails, a king will die and the Narrows will burn.
